A poem says:
The four Mo generals are called the Heavenly Kings;the Blue Cloud Sword alone is past all common things.Pluck the pipa, and men are dead already;open the Pearl Umbrella, and the sun gives no light.Never mind that its blazing flames can burn men to death;consider the Flower-Fox Marten, a mighty devourer.Yet for all their rare treasures, seldom seen in the world, once they meet Bingling, their lives are the first to go.

Now, Nangong Kuo and Wu Ji brought the three captives to the camp gate and sent word in. Ziya gave the order: “Push them in.” Lu Xiong stood upright; Fei and You, the two scoundrels, knelt. Ziya said, “Lu Xiong, a man must know the times, follow the will of Heaven, understand the great principles and tell the true from the false. All the four quarters now know how deep King Zhou’s wickedness runs; they have left him and turned to the Zhou — two of the realm’s three parts. Why defy Heaven and bring death on yourself? Now that you are taken, what have you to say?” Lu Xiong shouted, “Jiang Shang! You were once King Zhou’s subject and held the rank of counsellor. Now you betray your lord to seek glory — that is no mark of a good man. I am taken. I have lived on my sovereign’s stipend, and I should die for him in his hour of need. Today there is nothing for it but death — why waste more words?” Ziya ordered him held in the rear camp for the time being. He went back up the earthen terrace and paced out the steps of the Dipper; then he scattered the red clouds, the sun came out, its light like fire, and in no time the ice at the foot of Mount Qi had melted. Of the fifty thousand men, two or three thousand had frozen to death; the rest fled back into the Five Passes. Ziya then ordered Nangong Kuo to go to the city of Xiqi and invite King Wu to Mount Qi. Nangong Kuo galloped into the city and came to see King Wu. When he had made his bow, King Wu said, “The Father Chancellor is at Mount Qi, where the weather is scorching, there is no shade on the land and the troops toil hard. Now you come to see Us, minister — what is the matter?” Nangong Kuo replied, “Your servant comes on the chancellor’s orders to invite the Great King to Mount Qi.” King Wu set out for Mount Qi with all his civil and military officials. How so? There is a poem to prove it:
The ruler is upright and his ministers worthy, the state grows daily more glorious;King Wu’s humane virtue matches that of Taotang.Say nothing of the troops frozen in the ice and taken to their deaths;hear rather of the generals beheaded at the terrace. The sacrifice for the Investiture of the gods puts the sage lord to trouble;the toil of state affairs rests on good ministers.Since ancient times, how much heroes’ blood has flowed —all of it wounds from striving for gain and chasing fame.
