Little Mianchi County too stands as a screen for the Shang,and its commanding general is a hero out of the common run.His mist-breathing divine steed is rare indeed to find;his wondrous art of travelling through the earth is harder still to fathom.

Now, when Ziya had finished drawing the charms he needed, he told the adjutant to beat the drums, and the generals came up into the tent to pay their respects. Ziya said, “Each of you generals is to take one charm and hide it inside your helmet — or in your hair will do as well. Tomorrow, when we meet in battle, wait until he is beaten and runs; then you generals chase after him first and seize his Banner of Lost Souls and White Bones, and after that we attack his pass.” When the generals had heard him out, they took the charms and their orders, and every one of them was delighted. The next day Ziya came out with the main army, pointed toward the pass from afar and challenged them to battle.
