A poem says:
The sun sets on the western hills, the scene bleak and bare;a great hall about to fall, propped with a slender twig.Bian Ji, who had done no wrong, met an unjust death;Ouyang’s hot blood stained the rosy silk.Wicked men hold power and the people perish;monsters rise again and again and the altars of the state are shaken.Alas for the ancestral work of Cheng Tang,so lightly handed over to the tide that comes and goes.

Now, Ouyang Chun, surrounded in the thick of the Zhou generals, was so hard pressed that his helmet and armour hung askew and the sweat ran down his back. Judging that he could not hold out, he leapt his horse out of the ring and fled back into the pass, where he shut the gates and would not come out. At the camp gate Ziya saw that he had lost Leizhenzi as well, and he was deeply unhappy. Meanwhile Ouyang Chun, back inside the pass after his defeat, hurriedly took his seat in the hall. Seeing that Bian Ji was wounded, he told him to go home to his own house for now and recover; at the same time he had Leizhenzi sent down to the prison, and he wrote an urgent dispatch to Zhaoge asking for help. The officer who carried it was on the road just as spring was ending and summer beginning. And how fine was the scenery along the way? There is a poem to prove it. It says:

The weather clear and mild and fresh;in the pools the water chestnuts and lotus grow. The plums ripen after the rains;the wheat comes to ear in the wind.Grass grows where the blossoms fall;the orioles grow old, the willow twigs light.River swallows train their fledglings;mountain pheasants call as they feed their young. The Dipper points south and the days are long;all things shine bright and clear.
