Now, Wang Anshi opened the letter and looked at it. He recognized Li Xiuyuan’s handwriting. On it were written four lines, and this is what they said:
不必念經與設壇，實是未死李修緣。大略不過三二載，修緣必定轉回還。

Chant no sutras, raise no altar, there’s no call:Li Xiuyuan is truly not dead at all.Two or three years at most will pass,and then Xiuyuan is sure to come back home again.
王安士一看，「呵」了一聲，甚為詫異，立刻叫家人把老道請進來。家人出來再找老道，蹤跡不見。老仙翁早架趁腳風回到廟中，說：「聖僧吩咐，弟子已將信送去。」和尚說：「勞駕，勞駕。」仙翁說：「不便太謙。」和尚說：「我和尚將來還有奉求之事，非仙翁助我一臂之力不可。」老仙翁說：「只要聖僧給我一個信，我必到。」立刻吩咐擺酒，老仙翁陪著和尚喝酒。
王安士一看，「呵」了一声，甚为诧异，立刻叫家人把老道请进来。家人出来再找老道，踪迹不见。老仙翁早架趁脚风回到庙中，说：「圣僧吩咐，弟子已将信送去。」和尚说：「劳驾，劳驾。」仙翁说：「不便太谦。」和尚说：「我和尚将来还有奉求之事，非仙翁助我一臂之力不可。」老仙翁说：「只要圣僧给我一个信，我必到。」立刻吩咐摆酒，老仙翁陪着和尚喝酒。
When Wang Anshi had read it, he gave an “Oh!” and was greatly astonished, and at once he told a servant to invite the Daoist in. The servant went out again to find the Daoist, but there was no trace of him. The Old Immortal Elder had long since ridden the foot-wind back to his temple. “Holy monk,” he said, “as you instructed, your disciple has delivered the letter.” “Much obliged, much obliged,” said the monk. “There’s no call to be so modest,” said the Immortal Elder. “This monk will have another favour to beg of you one of these days,” said the monk, “and I can’t manage it unless the Immortal Elder lends me a hand.” “Holy monk,” said the Old Immortal Elder, “just send me word and I’ll be there without fail.” At once he ordered wine set out, and the Old Immortal Elder kept the monk company over it.
