話說姚殿光、雷天化二人被獲遭擒，二人氣得破口大罵。鮑雷吩咐叫人看守著他，立刻回稟了正殿真人赤發靈官邵華風。立刻前殿真人長樂天、後殿真人李樂山、左殿真人鄭華川、右殿真人李華山五殿真人升了座位，手下一干眾人都在兩旁邊排班站立，邵華風吩咐將姚殿光、雷天化搭上來。這兩個人被捆著來到大殿前，一看，見上面坐定五位真人，頭前有十六個道童，打著金鎖提爐，真是香菸繚繞，兩旁站著無數的老道，也有俗家，高高矮矮，胖胖瘦瘦，老老少少，面分青紅赤白紫綠藍，都是四野八方的山林海島的盜寇。正殿真人邵華風口念「無量壽佛」。說：「姚殿光、雷天化你二人休要執迷不悟，山人奉佛祖牒文，玉帝敕旨，降世凡間，所為急救黎民於水火之中。大宋國氣數已終，山人乃應天順人，你兩個人跟山人有一段俗緣，奉佛派天差，你二人臨凡保護山人，共成大業，將來山人南面稱孤，你二人都是開疆闢土的功臣，列土分茅的大將。」

Now, Yao Dianguang and Lei Tianhua had been caught and taken, and the two of them were so furious that they cursed at the top of their voices. Bao Lei had men set to guard them and at once went to report to the Perfected One of the Main Hall, the Red-Haired Divine Officer Shao Huafeng. At once the Perfected Ones of the Five Halls took their seats: Chang Letian, the Perfected One of the Front Hall; Li Leshan, the Perfected One of the Rear Hall; Zheng Huachuan, the Perfected One of the Left Hall; and Li Huashan, the Perfected One of the Right Hall. The whole crowd of their followers stood in ranks on either side, and Shao Huafeng ordered Yao Dianguang and Lei Tianhua carried in. The two of them were brought, bound, before the great hall. They looked, and up above sat the five Perfected Ones. In front of them were sixteen Daoist acolytes swinging censers on golden chains, so that the incense smoke truly curled and drifted, and on both sides stood countless old Daoists, and laymen too, tall ones and short ones, fat ones and thin ones, old ones and young ones, with faces blue, red, crimson, white, purple, green and indigo: robbers and raiders, every one of them, from the mountain forests and sea islands of all four quarters and eight directions. The Perfected One of the Main Hall, Shao Huafeng, chanted, “Buddha of Limitless Life,” and said, “Yao Dianguang, Lei Tianhua, you two must not persist in your delusion. This mountain man holds a warrant from the Buddha and an edict from the Jade Emperor, and has come down into the mortal world to rescue the common people from their dire suffering. The fated span of the Great Song is at an end, and this mountain man is answering Heaven and following the people. You two share a bond of earthly destiny with this mountain man. By order of the Buddha and at Heaven’s command, you were born into the world to protect this mountain man and help him achieve the great cause. When this mountain man one day faces south and calls himself the Solitary One, you two will be meritorious ministers who opened up the realm and great generals granted land and fiefs.”
姚殿光、雷天化二人一聽，氣得顏色更變，破口大罵，說：「好妖道，你既是出家人，就應當奉公守分，跳出三界外，不在五行中，一塵不染，萬慮皆空。掃地不傷螻蟻命，愛惜飛蛾紗罩燈，出家人以慈悲為門，善念為本，無故妖言惑眾，蠱惑愚民，在這裡占山落草，亂臣賊子，人人得而誅之。你家大太爺乃是堂堂正正英雄，烈烈轟轟豪傑，豈能歸降你等這些叛逆？不久皇上家天兵一到，把你等全皆拿住，碎屍萬段，刨墳滅祖，死後也落個罵名千載。你家大太爺既被拿住，殺剮存留，任憑於你。」這二個人破口一罵，邵華風氣得哇呀呀怪叫，說：「眾位此事該當如何？」旁邊有一人叫單刀太歲周龍說：「祖師爺，這兩個人還留著他？他毀謗你老人家，還不速將他兩個人結果了性命！」邵華風立刻吩咐：「來人，將他拉到後面去，給我梟首號令！」旁邊過來一位老道，叫董太清。他原本是從前要陷害王安士，也沒害成，自己廟也燒了，他投奔到慈雲觀來。邵華風封他為後門真人，把守慈雲觀的後門。今天董太清說：「祖師爺要把他兩個人殺了，豈不便宜他？往後誰只要拼出一死，就敢罵祖師爺了。要依我把這兩個人交給我，到後面把他們剮了。再說這兩個人是玉山縣三十六友之內的，跟雷鳴、陳亮是拜兄弟，我大兄張太素死在雷鳴之手，我今天把他兩個人凌遲了，也算給我師兄報了仇。」邵華風說：「既然如此，就派你將他二人結果了性命，隨你自便。」董太清吩咐手下人：「搭著走！」旁邊過來一個老道，說：「董道兄，單絲不線，孤樹不林，我也跟玉山縣的人有仇，我幫你將他二人剮了。」董太清一看，這說話老道是劉妙通。董太清說：「劉道兄，你怎么跟玉山縣的人有仇？」劉妙通說：「我師兄張妙興五仙山祥雲觀被他們燒了，我們師父華清風被濟顛和尚所害，我正想報仇雪恨。」董太清說：「好，你我二人去結果他等的性命。」說著，有人搭著頭裡走，董太清、劉妙通跟隨，來到西跨院，將姚殿光、雷天化放在地下，董太清拉出寶劍說：「我來殺！」往前趕奔，剛一舉寶劍要殺姚殿光，他的寶劍尚未落下去，劉妙通由後面手起劍落，把董太清的人頭砍下來，隨後用寶劍將這二人繩扣挑開。劉妙通說：「你二人快跟我走。」

When Yao Dianguang and Lei Tianhua heard this, they changed color with rage and cursed at the top of their voices. “You wicked Daoist! If you’re a man who has left the world, you ought to keep the law and know your place, leap out beyond the Three Realms and stand outside the Five Elements, untouched by a speck of dust, every worldly thought gone empty. ‘Sweep the floor, but spare the ants’ lives; pity the moths, and put a gauze shade over the lamp.’ Men who have left the world take mercy as their gate and goodness as their root. And you, for no reason, spread wicked talk to lead people astray and bewitch simple folk, and squat on this mountain as a bandit! Rebel ministers and traitors: any man may put them to death. Your old granddads here are heroes, upright and open, men of fire and thunder. How could we surrender to a pack of traitors like you? Before long the Emperor’s heavenly troops will be here, and they’ll catch the lot of you, hack you into ten thousand pieces, dig up your graves and wipe out your ancestors, and when you’re dead you’ll leave a name men curse for a thousand years. Your granddads here have been caught. Kill us, slice us, keep us or let us go, it’s up to you.” The moment the two of them cursed him, Shao Huafeng was so enraged that he gave a strange howl. “Well, gentlemen,” he said, “what is to be done about this?” Beside him was a man called the Single-Saber Grand Duke, Zhou Long. “Patriarch,” he said, “are you going to keep these two alive? They slander you, sir! Why not finish them off at once?” Shao Huafeng at once gave the order: “Men, drag them out to the back, cut off their heads and hang them up as a warning!” Over from the side came an old Daoist called Dong Taiqing. He was the one who had tried to do Wang Anshi harm some while ago; he had not managed it, his own temple had burned down, and he had come to the Ciyun Temple for refuge. Shao Huafeng had made him the Perfected One of the Back Gate and set him to guard the Ciyun Temple’s back gate. Now Dong Taiqing said, “If the Patriarch just has these two killed, isn’t that letting them off too lightly? After this, anyone who’s ready to die will dare to curse the Patriarch. If you ask me, hand the two of them over to me, and I’ll take them to the back and slice them to pieces. Besides, these two are among the Thirty-Six Heroes of Yushan County and sworn brothers of Lei Ming and Chen Liang. My senior brother Zhang Taisu died at Lei Ming’s hands. If I put these two to death by slicing today, it will count as avenging my brother.” “In that case,” said Shao Huafeng, “I send you to finish them off. Do as you please.” “Carry them along!” Dong Taiqing ordered his men. Over from the side came another old Daoist. “Brother Dong,” he said, “a single strand makes no thread, and a lone tree makes no wood. I have a feud with the Yushan County men as well. I’ll help you slice the two of them.” Dong Taiqing looked, and the old Daoist who had spoken was Liu Miaotong. “Brother Liu,” said Dong Taiqing, “how do you come to have a feud with the Yushan County men?” “They burned down my senior brother Zhang Miaoxing’s Xiangyun Temple on Mount Wuxian,” said Liu Miaotong, “and our master Hua Qingfeng was done to death by that monk Crazy Ji. I’ve been wanting to take my revenge.” “Good,” said Dong Taiqing. “The two of us will go and finish them off.” As they talked, men carried the prisoners on ahead, with Dong Taiqing and Liu Miaotong following, and they came to the west side courtyard. There they put Yao Dianguang and Lei Tianhua down on the ground, and Dong Taiqing drew his precious sword. “I’ll do the killing!” he said. He stepped up and had just raised the sword to kill Yao Dianguang when, before his blade could come down, Liu Miaotong, behind him, raised his own sword and brought it down and cut off Dong Taiqing’s head. Then with the point of his sword he flicked open the knots of the two men’s ropes. “Quick, you two, come with me,” said Liu Miaotong.

Luckily there was a small boat moored there. Liu Miaotong got aboard with Yao Dianguang and Lei Tianhua, and the boatmen, taking them for Ciyun Temple men, asked no questions. Liu Miaotong urged them to make haste. “Venerable Master,” said Yao Dianguang, “may we ask your name?” “There’s no time for talk now,” said Liu Miaotong. “Whatever there is to say can wait till we’re off the boat.” The little boat had just reached the north bank and they had just got off when they heard an uproar break out in the Ciyun Temple. As it turned out, the moment Liu Miaotong killed Dong Taiqing, someone had already reported it to Shao Huafeng, and Shao Huafeng sent two old Daoists, Liu Yuansu, the Daoist of the Seven Stars, and Xie Tianji, the Perfected One of the Eight Trigrams, to bring Liu Miaotong back along with the other two, and fast. Both of these Daoists had wicked arts and black magic. They came after them in pursuit and were not very far behind, the two old Daoists with swords in their hands, shouting, “Liu Miaotong, stop where you are!” At this point Yao Dianguang and Lei Tianhua said, “This is bad! We’ll never get away.” “Close your eyes, you two,” said Liu Miaotong.
