話說王貴想要發財，先把東屋門鎖上，叫夥計去開門。夥計開門一看，和尚同著兩個人，搭著一個大包裹。和尚說：「你幫著搬包裹。」夥計過來搬不動，和尚說：「兩位幫著。」柴、杜二人也幫著，四個人抬著往裏走。來到上房，夥計心裏想道：「這必是好東西，四個人搭著且費盡心力，不想他三個人怎麼搭來的。」和尚來到上房說：「紀夥計，貴姓呀？」夥計說：「你知道我姓紀，還問我貴姓？」和尚說：「我瞧你像姓紀，我真猜著了。」夥計說：「大師父要用甚麼菜吃呢？」和尚說：「你們有甚麼？」夥計說：「你要都有。」和尚說：「炒豆腐、燴豆腐、豆腐乾、豆腐絲，沒得別的。我們掌灶的，人家辦喜事請了去，連傢伙都借了，有小雞子兩隻，沒佐料，對不對。」夥計一愣，心裏說：「怪呀，這話是我剛纔跟他們那兩位說的，怎麼和尚說這話？」濟公答了話說：「我省得你說呀！」夥計說：「不是，你要甚麼菜全都有。」和尚說：「要三壺酒，來兩樣現成的菜。」夥計答應，嚷喊：「白乾三壺，海海的迷字。」和尚說：「對，白乾三壺，海海的迷字。」夥計一聽，嚇了一跳，心想：「了不得了，和尚也許懂的。」夥計想罷，說：「和尚，甚麼叫海海的迷字？」和尚說：「你講理不講理？你說倒來問我，我還要問你呢，甚麼叫海海的迷字？」夥計想了一想說：「不是，我說的是要好乾酒。」和尚說：「我也是要好酒。」夥計然後把外邊酒菜拿來，和尚拿了酒壺，瞧了半天說：「夥計你喝呀！」夥計說：「我不喝酒。」和尚說：「老杜、老柴喝。」柴、杜二人每人各拿一壺來，三人喝了三壺，俱皆翻身跌倒。夥計告訴王貴：「已把上房的三個人制住了。」王貴說：「好，先報仇，殺他們兩個人，然後再發財。」帶領手下人，各執鋼刀直奔東配房，要殺雷鳴、陳亮。急急來到東房窗外，找不著東房的門了，王貴說：「夥計，東房的門，我怎麼找不著了？」夥計說：「我也找不著門路了，怪不怪？」王貴一著急說：「咱們先到上房殺和尚，然後再報仇。」眾人這纔直奔上房。紀方說：「我動手。」他進了西裏間，剛一舉刀，和尚就齜著牙，嚇了紀方一跳，站在那裏不能動轉。

Now, Wang Gui, wanting to make his fortune, first locked the door of the east room and then told the attendant to go and open the gate. The attendant opened it and looked: there was the monk with two men, carrying a big bundle between them. “Help carry the bundle,” said the monk. The attendant came over, but he could not shift it. “You two help him,” said the monk. Chai and Du lent a hand as well, and the four of them carried it in between them. When they reached the main rooms, the attendant thought, “This must be something good. With four of us carrying it, it’s still taken every ounce of strength we’ve got. I can’t think how the three of them got it here.” In the main rooms the monk said, “Attendant Ji, and what might your honourable surname be?” “You know my name’s Ji, and you still ask me my surname?” said the attendant. “You looked like a Ji to me,” said the monk, “and I guessed right.” “What dishes would you like, Master?” said the attendant. “What have you got?” said the monk. “Whatever you want, we’ve got it.” “Fried bean curd, stewed bean curd, dried bean curd, shredded bean curd, and nothing else,” said the monk. “Your cook was hired away for somebody’s wedding, and they borrowed all your pots and dishes too. There are two little chickens, but no seasoning. Am I right?” The attendant was taken aback. “That’s odd,” he thought. “That’s just what I told those other two a while ago. How does the monk come to say it?” Ji Gong answered him: “I’m saving you the trouble of saying it!” “No, no,” said the attendant. “Whatever dish you want, we’ve got it.” “Three pots of wine,” said the monk, “and a couple of dishes, whatever’s ready.” The attendant agreed and called out, “Three pots of white liquor, with a mighty big dose of the sleepy stuff!” “That’s right,” said the monk. “Three pots of white liquor, with a mighty big dose of the sleepy stuff.” The attendant gave a start. “Oh no,” he thought. “Maybe the monk knows the lingo.” Then he said, “Monk, what do you mean, ‘a mighty big dose of the sleepy stuff’?” “Are you going to be reasonable or not?” said the monk. “You said it, and now you’re asking me? I want to ask you: what does ‘a mighty big dose of the sleepy stuff’ mean?” The attendant thought a moment. “No, I just meant you want good white liquor.” “I want good wine too,” said the monk. The attendant then fetched the wine and food in from outside. The monk took a pot of wine and stared at it for a long while. “Attendant, you drink!” “I don’t drink,” said the attendant. “Old Du, Old Chai, you drink,” said the monk. Chai and Du each took a pot, the three of them drank the three pots, and all three toppled over. The attendant told Wang Gui, “I’ve laid out the three in the main rooms.” “Good,” said Wang Gui. “Revenge first: we kill those two. Then we make our fortune.” He led his men, each with a steel blade in hand, straight for the east side room to kill Lei Ming and Chen Liang. They hurried up to the window of the east room, but they could not find its door. “Attendant,” said Wang Gui, “how come I can’t find the door of the east room?” “I can’t find the way in either,” said the attendant. “Isn’t that strange?” Wang Gui grew anxious. “We’ll go to the main rooms and kill the monk first, then have our revenge.” Only then did they all make straight for the main rooms. “I’ll do it,” said Jifang. He went into the inner room on the west side, and he had just raised his blade when the monk bared his teeth at him. It gave Jifang such a fright that he stood rooted to the spot and could not move.

Outside, Wang Gui looked in and saw Jifang holding his blade up without striking. Anger surged up in him. “I told you to kill him, and you’re holding up your blade to scare him?” Wang Gui took a blade and went in himself to kill the monk. He had just raised it when the monk pointed a finger at him and held him fast with the immobilizing spell. “You fine fellow,” said the monk. “You want to murder this monk. In a while I’ll show you what I can do.” He pointed again and held all the attendants outside fast too. The monk went straight to the east side room, pushed open the door and went in. He took out a piece of medicine, propped Lei Ming and Chen Liang up, dissolved the medicine in boiling water and poured it down their throats.
少時二人還醒過來，睜眼一看，見濟公眼前站著，雷鳴忙跪下磕頭：「弟子愚昧無知，我害你老人家，你老人家不記仇，反來救我，真是寬宏大量，弟子給聖僧賠罪！」和尚說：「你也不用賠罪，我兩位班頭叫人家拿蒙汗藥治住在上房躺著，我給你兩塊藥，你們去把他兩個人救過來。他們要問你，如此這般。」雷鳴、陳亮點頭，和尚仍回上房躺下裝睡覺。
少时二人还醒过来，睁眼一看，见济公眼前站着，雷鸣忙跪下磕头：「弟子愚昧无知，我害你老人家，你老人家不记仇，反来救我，真是宽宏大量，弟子给圣僧赔罪！」和尚说：「你也不用赔罪，我两位班头叫人家拿蒙汗药治住在上房躺着，我给你两块药，你们去把他两个人救过来。他们要问你，如此这般。」雷鸣、陈亮点头，和尚仍回上房躺下装睡觉。
In a little while the two came round. They opened their eyes and saw Ji Gong standing before them. Lei Ming hurriedly knelt and kowtowed. “Your disciple was ignorant and blind. I tried to harm you, venerable sir, and you bear me no grudge, but come and save me instead. You are truly generous and forgiving. Your disciple begs the holy monk’s pardon!” “No need to beg pardon,” said the monk. “My two head constables have been laid out with knockout drug and are lying in the main rooms. I’ll give you two pieces of medicine. Go and bring the pair of them round. If they ask you anything, say thus and so.” Lei Ming and Chen Liang nodded, and the monk went back to the main rooms, lay down again and pretended to be asleep.
