The Dragon Draws Water

A line drawing in the manner of a late-Qing lithographed edition: on a broad river at night, a lone scholar in a soft cap and wide-sleeved gown stands at the bow of a small canopied boat moored to a reedy bank, one hand on the canopy post and the other sleeve raised, gazing up at a great scaly dragon that hangs from curling clouds and dips its tail into the water, while a spiralling band of glittering water climbs its body, with willows, village roofs and a small pagoda on the far shore.
