The Tiger of Zhaocheng

A line drawing in the manner of a late-Qing lithographed edition: in the main hall of a county yamen by day, a seated magistrate in a winged black gauze cap and rank-badge robe raises a hand to question a crouching tiger, which bows its head low with a rope loosely round its neck, while a sturdy runner at the right grips the rope's end, with a sun-and-waves screen, brick floor, rod rack, lattice window and a pine in the courtyard beyond.
