邑西磁窰塢有農人婦，勇健如男子，輒為鄉中排難解紛。與夫異縣而居。夫家高苑，距淄百餘里；偶一來，信宿便去。婦自赴顏山，販陶器為業。有贏餘，則施丐者。一夕與鄰婦語，忽起曰「腹少微痛，想孽障欲離身也。」遂去。天明往探之，則見其肩荷釀酒巨甕二，方將入門。隨至其室，則有嬰兒繃臥。駭問之，蓋娩後已負重百里矣。故與北菴尼善，訂為姊妹。後聞尼有穢行，忿然操杖，將往撻楚，眾苦勸乃止。一日，遇尼於途，遽批之。問：「何罪？」亦不答。拳石交施，至不能號，乃釋而去。

At Ciyaowu, west of the town in my county, there lived a farmer’s wife as brave and strong as a man, who was forever settling quarrels and smoothing over disputes in the countryside around. She and her husband lived in different counties. His home was in Gaoyuan, more than a hundred li from Zichuan. Now and then he would come, stay a couple of nights, and leave. She went to Yanshan on her own and made her living selling pottery. Whatever she had left over she gave to beggars. One evening, while she was chatting with a neighbour woman, she suddenly got up and said, “My belly aches a little. I think the little curse wants to leave my body.” And she went off. At daybreak the neighbour went to see how she was, and found her just coming in at her gate with two huge wine-brewing jars on her shoulders. Following her into her room, the neighbour saw a baby lying there in swaddling bands. Astonished, she asked about it: after giving birth, the woman had already carried that load a hundred li. She had long been on good terms with the nun of the North Cloister, and the two had sworn to be sisters. Later she heard that the nun was carrying on lewdly. In a rage she took up a stick and was going to give her a thrashing; only when everyone begged hard did she stop. One day she met the nun on the road and at once slapped her across the face. “What have I done?” the nun asked. She did not answer. She laid into her with fists and stones until the nun could no longer cry out, then let her go and walked off.
