With goodness set right, all ties are gathered in;renown spreads through the four continents.By wisdom’s light he reaches the other shore; wind sighs, wind sighs, and soft clouds rise at the edge of Heaven.All Buddhas answer one another,dwelling on jade terraces through ten thousand times ten thousand autumns.Shatter the butterfly dream of this human world; rest, rest, wash clean the dusty air and let no sorrow cling.
話表三藏師徒洗污穢之衚衕，上逍遙之道路，光陰迅速，又值炎天。正是：
海榴舒錦彈，荷葉綻青盤。兩路綠楊藏乳燕，行人避暑扇搖紈。
進前行處，忽見有一城池相近。三藏勒馬叫：「徒弟們，你看那是甚麼去處？」行者道：「師父原來不識字，虧你怎麼領唐王旨意離朝也？」三藏道：「我自幼為僧，千經萬典皆通，怎麼說我不識字？」行者道：「既識字，怎麼那城頭上杏黃旗，明書三個大字，就不認得，卻問是甚去處何也？」三藏喝道：「這潑猴胡說。那旗被風吹得亂擺，縱有字也看不明白。」行者道：「老孫偏怎看見？」八戒、沙僧道：「師父，莫聽師兄搗鬼。這般遙望，城池尚不明白，如何就見是甚字號？」行者道：「卻不是『朱紫國』三字？」三藏道：「朱紫國必是西邦王位，卻要倒換關文。」行者道：「不消講了。」

Now, Sanzang and his disciples had cleared the filthy lane and taken the road at ease. Time sped by, and once again the weather was hot. Truly:
Pomegranate blossoms open like balls of brocade;lotus leaves unfold as green platters.Green willows on both sides shelter swallow chicks;travellers escaping the heat wave fans of silk.
As they went forward, a walled city suddenly came into view nearby. Sanzang reined in his horse and called, “Disciples, look! What place is that?” Pilgrim said, “So Master can’t read! How ever did you manage to receive the Tang Emperor’s command and leave his court?” Sanzang said, “I’ve been a monk since childhood and know a thousand scriptures and ten thousand sacred texts. How can you say I can’t read?” Pilgrim said, “If you can read, why can’t you recognize the three big characters plainly written on that apricot-yellow flag above the city wall? Why ask what place it is?” Sanzang scolded him. “You wretched monkey, what nonsense! The wind keeps whipping that flag about. Even if there are words on it, no one can make them out.” Pilgrim said, “Then how is it Old Sun can see them?” Bajie and Sha Monk said, “Master, don’t listen to elder brother’s tricks. At this distance we can barely see the city itself. How could he make out any lettering?” Pilgrim said, “Aren’t those the three characters for ‘the kingdom of Scarlet and Purple’?” Sanzang said, “The kingdom of Scarlet and Purple must be a monarchy in the western lands. We’ll have to have our travel papers endorsed.” “That goes without saying,” said Pilgrim.
不多時，至城門下馬，過橋，入進三層門裡，真個好個皇州，但見：
門樓高聳，垛疊齊排。周圍活水通流，南北高山相對。六街三市貨資多，萬戶千家生意盛。果然是個帝王都會處，天府大京城。絕域梯航至，遐方玉帛盈。形勝連山遠，宮垣接漢清。三關嚴鎖鑰，萬古樂昇平。
不多时，至城门下马，过桥，入进三层门里，真个好个皇州，但见：
门楼高耸，垛叠齐排。周围活水通流，南北高山相对。六街三市货资多，万户千家生意盛。果然是个帝王都会处，天府大京城。绝域梯航至，遐方玉帛盈。形胜连山远，宫垣接汉清。三关严锁钥，万古乐升平。
Before long they reached the city gate, dismounted, crossed the bridge and passed through three successive gates. What a fine royal capital it was! This is what they saw:
Gate towers soar;battlements stand in ordered ranks.Living water flows all around;high mountains face each other north and south.Six streets and three markets teem with goods;ten thousand homes and a thousand households prosper at their trade.Truly a gathering place for emperors and kings,a great capital in a land of plenty.From remotest lands they climb and sail;far countries heap it with jade and silk.Its splendid site joins distant mountain ranges;palace walls reach the clear Milky Way.Three gates are locked and guarded tight;peace and prosperity delight it for all time.
