The hidden arts of the Qimen gates are opened before the lines;to cut down generals and seize their flags — a fine deed too!Black flames lead a soul away and veil the white sun;a blue banner thrown to the ground draws lines in the dust.At Sanshan Pass are many gallant men;before the Cliff of the Five Breaths is a rare talent.It is not that a fairy maid can work magical transformations;it is only that the Old Man Under the Moon is making a new match.
話說燃燈合山，擠住殷郊，四路人馬齊上山來。武王至山頂上，看見殷郊這等模樣，滾鞍下馬，跪于塵埃，大呼：「千歲！小臣姬發，奉法克守臣節，併不敢欺君枉上。相父今日令殿下如此，使孤有萬年污名。」子牙挽扶武王而言曰：「殷郊違逆天命，大數如此，怎能脫逃。大王要盡人臣之道，行禮以盡主公之德可也。」武王曰：「相父今日把儲君夾在山中，大罪俱在我姬發了。望列位老師大開惻隱，憐念姬發，放了殿下罷！」燃燈道人笑曰：「賢王不知天數。殷郊違逆天命，怎能逃脫，大王盡過君臣之禮便罷了。大王又不可逆天行事。」武王兩次三番勸止。子牙正色言曰，「老臣不過順天應人，斷不敢逆天而誤主公也。」武王含淚，撮土焚香，跪拜在地，稱「臣」泣訴曰：「臣非不救殿下，奈眾老師要順守天命，實非臣之罪也。」拜罷，燃燈請武王下山，命廣成子推犁上山。廣成子一見殷郊這等如此，不覺落淚。正是：

Now, when Randeng had brought the mountains together and caught Yin Jiao fast, the men of all four roads came up the mountain together. King Wu reached the summit, and when he saw Yin Jiao in such a state, he tumbled from the saddle, knelt in the dust and cried aloud, “Your Highness! Your humble subject Ji Fa has kept the law and held to a subject’s duty, and never once dared to deceive his sovereign or wrong those above him. Now Father Chancellor has brought Your Highness to this, and my name will be stained for ten thousand years.” Ziya helped King Wu up and said, “Yin Jiao has defied the will of Heaven. His great reckoning is so; how could he escape it? If the Great King wishes to do his whole duty as a subject, it is enough for my lord to perform the rites, and so fulfil a lord’s virtue.” King Wu said, “Father Chancellor, today you have caught the heir to the throne in the mountain, and the whole of the great crime falls on me, Ji Fa. I beg all of you masters, open your hearts to pity: have mercy on me and let His Highness go!” The Daoist Randeng laughed and said, “Worthy king, you do not know Heaven’s reckoning. Yin Jiao has defied the will of Heaven; how could he escape? Once the Great King has performed the rites between subject and sovereign, that is enough. Nor may the Great King go against Heaven.” Again and again King Wu tried to stop them. Ziya said sternly, “Your old servant does no more than accord with Heaven and answer to men; I would never dare go against Heaven and so fail my lord.” Tears in his eyes, King Wu scooped up a pinch of earth for incense, knelt and bowed to the ground, and, calling himself ‘your subject’, said weeping, “It is not that your subject will not save Your Highness; but all these masters will keep to the will of Heaven, and truly the fault is not mine.” When he had finished bowing, Randeng asked King Wu to go down the mountain and ordered Guangchengzi to push the plough up. When Guangchengzi saw Yin Jiao in such a state, the tears came before he knew it. Truly:
只因出口犁鋤願，今日西岐怎脫逃。
只因出口犁锄愿，今日西岐怎脱逃。
Because he once spoke the oath of the plough and hoe,how could he escape today at Xiqi?
