伐罪弔民誅獨夫，西周原應玉虛符。自無血戰成功易，豈有紛爭立業殊。孔雀逆天皆孟浪，金雞阻路盡支吾。休言伎倆參玄妙，總有西方接引徒。

A poem says:
To punish the guilty, comfort the people and slay the lone tyrant,Zhou in the west answered from the first the tally of Jade Emptiness.Without bloody battles, success would come too easily;without strife, how would the founding stand apart?The peacock defies Heaven, all reckless folly;blocking the road at Jinji is nothing but stalling.Say not that his tricks have plumbed the mysteries:the West will always come to lead him in as a disciple.
話說孔宣人馬出關，至金雞嶺，探馬報入中軍：「前有周兵在嶺下，請令定奪。」孔宣令：「在嶺上安下營寨，阻住咽喉之路，使周兵不能前進。」不題。只見子牙人馬正行，哨馬報入中軍：「稟上元帥：前有成湯大隊人馬住在嶺上。」子牙傳令：「安營。」陞帳坐下，自思：「三十六路人馬俱完，怎麼又有這枝兵來？」子牙沉思，搯指算來：「連張山是三十五路，連此一路方是三十六路。此事必又費手。」
话说孔宣人马出关，至金鸡岭，探马报入中军：「前有周兵在岭下，请令定夺。」孔宣令：「在岭上安下营寨，阻住咽喉之路，使周兵不能前进。」不题。只见子牙人马正行，哨马报入中军：「禀上元帅：前有成汤大队人马住在岭上。」子牙传令：「安营。」升帐坐下，自思：「三十六路人马俱完，怎么又有这枝兵来？」子牙沉思，搯指算来：「连张山是三十五路，连此一路方是三十六路。此事必又费手。」
Now, Kong Xuan’s army came out of the pass and reached Jinji Ridge. A scout brought the report to the command tent: “There are Zhou troops at the foot of the ridge ahead. Your orders, sir?” Kong Xuan ordered: “Make camp on the ridge and block this throat of a road, so the Zhou troops cannot advance.” But no more of that. As Ziya’s army was on the march, a scouting rider brought the report to the command tent: “Report, Marshal: a great army of Cheng Tang is encamped on the ridge ahead.” Ziya gave the order: “Make camp.” He went up into his tent, sat down and thought to himself: “All thirty-six armies have been dealt with — how is it that yet another force has come?” Ziya pondered, and reckoned it out on his fingers: “Counting Zhang Shan, that makes thirty-five armies; with this one, it comes to thirty-six. This will be hard work again.”
且說孔宣在嶺上止住了三日，子牙大兵已到。忙傳令問：「誰人去周營見頭陣走一遭？」有先行官陳庚出位應曰：「末將願先見頭陣。」孔宣許之。陳庚上馬下嶺，至周營搦戰。探馬報入中軍。子牙問左右：「誰去見此頭陣？」有先行官黃天化應曰：「願往。」子牙分付曰：「務要小心。」黃天化答曰：「不必囑咐。」忙上了玉麒麟出營。看見來將，手提方天戟大呼曰：「反賊何人？」黃天化答曰：「吾非反賊，乃奉天征討掃蕩成湯天寶大元帥麾下，正印先行官黃天化是也。你乃何人？也通個名來。錄功簿上好記你的首級。」陳庚大怒：「量你雞犬小輩，敢與天朝元宰相拒哉？」縱馬搖戟，直取黃天化。天化手中雙鎚赴面交還。麟馬往來，鎚戟併舉。有讚為證，讚曰：

Now, Kong Xuan had stayed on the ridge for three days when Ziya’s great army arrived. He gave orders at once, asking: “Who will go to the Zhou camp and fight the first battle?” The vanguard officer Chen Geng stepped forward and answered, “This humble officer will gladly fight the first battle.” Kong Xuan agreed. Chen Geng mounted his horse, rode down the ridge and came to the Zhou camp to challenge them to battle. A scout brought the report to the command tent. Ziya asked those about him: “Who will go and fight this first battle?” The vanguard officer Huang Tianhua answered, “I will gladly go.” Ziya instructed him: “Be sure to take care.” Huang Tianhua replied, “You needn’t tell me.” Quickly he mounted his jade qilin and rode out of the camp. The general facing him, a crescent-bladed halberd in his hand, shouted: “Who are you, rebel?” Huang Tianhua answered, “I am no rebel, but chief vanguard officer under the banner of the Heaven-Protected Grand Marshal for Sweeping Away the House of Cheng Tang, who campaigns at Heaven’s command. I am Huang Tianhua. And who are you? Give me your name too, so I can enter your head in the merit roll.” Chen Geng was furious: “A whelp like you, no better than a chicken or a dog — how dare you stand against the great commander of the Heavenly Court?” He spurred his horse, shook his halberd and came straight at Huang Tianhua. Tianhua met him face on with the pair of hammers in his hands. Qilin and horse wheeled back and forth; hammers and halberd rose together. There is a verse of praise to prove it. It says:
