話說悟禪正在氣吹董太清，忽聽山坡一聲「無量佛」信口作歌，來了一位老道。頭戴舊布道巾，身穿破袖頭，白綾高腰襪子，直搭護膝，厚底雲履，面如古月，鶴髮童顏，一部銀髯，真是發如三冬雪，須賽九秋霜，在手中提著花籃，背後背著乾坤奧妙大葫蘆，來者老道非別，乃是天台山上清宮東方太悅老仙翁崑崙子。董太清一看，趕緊跪倒，口稱：「祖師爺在上，弟子給祖師爺叩頭。」孫道全也跪下了，悟禪也嚇得不敢吹了，雷鳴、陳亮不知這個老道的來歷。這位老道在天台山上，道德深遠。這座天台山，有四十五里地高，他的廟站在上面，叫接雲嶺。這座山上，豺狼虎豹、毒蛇怪蟒極多，凡夫俗子也到不了。孫道全、董太清都認識，故此趕緊行禮。老仙翁一看說：「你兩個人為何如此爭鬥？從實說來！這個妖精是誰？」孫道全說：「回稟祖師爺，這個小和尚是我師兄，我拜濟顛和尚為師，我要跟濟顛學習點能為法術。」老仙翁一聽說：「好，我山人正要找濟顛呢。」老仙翁為什麼要找濟公作對呢？這內中有一段緣故。

Now, Wuchan was in the middle of blowing Dong Taiqing about when from the hillside came a cry of “Limitless Buddha!” and a song sung off the cuff, and an old Daoist appeared. On his head he wore an old cloth Daoist cap; on his body, a tattered robe. He had tall socks of white silk, kneepads strapped straight down, and thick-soled cloud shoes. His face was like a full moon; he had crane-white hair, a child’s complexion and a full beard of silver. Truly, his hair was like snow in the three months of winter, his beard like frost in the depths of autumn. In his hand he carried a flower basket, and on his back he bore the Great Gourd of Cosmic Mysteries. The old Daoist who had come was none other than the Old Immortal Dongfang Taiyue of Shangqing Palace on Mount Tiantai, Kunlunzi. The moment Dong Taiqing saw him, he hurried to kneel. “Patriarch above,” he said, “your disciple kowtows to the Patriarch.” Sun Daoquan knelt too, and Wuchan was so frightened he dared not blow any more. Lei Ming and Chen Liang did not know who this old Daoist was. Up on Mount Tiantai, this old Daoist’s attainment in the Way ran deep and far. Mount Tiantai is forty-five li high, and his temple stood at the top, at a place called Jieyun Ridge. The mountain teemed with jackals, wolves, tigers and leopards, venomous snakes and monstrous pythons, and no ordinary mortal could get up there. Sun Daoquan and Dong Taiqing both knew him, and so they hurried to pay their respects. The Old Immortal Elder looked at them. “Why are you two fighting like this?” he said. “Tell me the truth! And who is this demon?” “To report to the Patriarch,” said Sun Daoquan, “this little monk is my elder Brother. I have taken the monk Crazy Ji as my master. I want to learn a few skills and magic arts from Crazy Ji.” When the Old Immortal Elder heard this, he said, “Good. This man of the mountains has been meaning to find Crazy Ji.” Why did the Old Immortal Elder want to find Ji Gong and set himself against him? There was a reason behind it.
書中交代：只因前者褚道緣、張道陵兩個老道被雷鳴陳亮給把衣裳都剝了去，兩個老道及至還醒過來，一瞧赤身露體，褚道緣說：「這怎么好？要在街上一走，誰瞧見，誰不打耳光子的？」老道張道陵說：「咱們到天台山上清宮去找祖師爺去罷。」兩個人白天不敢走，等天黑，還是走山里，不敢走村莊。到上清宮，一打門，小道童由裡面出來，一開門說：「二位怎么連褲子都沒有了？必是賭輸了。」褚道緣說：「不是，我二人被濟顛和尚欺負苦了。我二人要見見祖師爺，求祖師爺替我們報仇。」

A word of explanation: some time before, the two Daoists Chu Daoyuan and Zhang Daoling had been stripped of every stitch of clothing by Lei Ming and Chen Liang. When the two Daoists came to and found themselves stark naked, Chu Daoyuan said, “What are we going to do? If we walk down the street like this, anybody who sees us is going to box our ears.” “Let’s go to Shangqing Palace on Mount Tiantai and find the Patriarch,” said the Daoist Zhang Daoling. The two of them dared not travel by day. They waited till dark, and even then they kept to the mountains and dared not pass through the villages. When they reached Shangqing Palace and knocked at the gate, a little Daoist boy came out from inside and opened it. “How come you two haven’t even got trousers on?” he said. “You must have lost them gambling.” “No,” said Chu Daoyuan. “We two have been bullied something terrible by the monk Crazy Ji. We want to see the Patriarch and beg him to take revenge for us.”
說著話，來到裡面。一見老仙翁，老仙翁這個氣就大了，說：「兩個東西，怎么這樣不要臉？連褲子都沒了？」張道陵說：「祖師爺有所不知，塵世上出了一個濟顛和尚，興三寶，滅三清，他說：‘三清教沒有人，都是畜類，全都是披毛戴角，都是四造所生，脊背朝天，橫骨插心。’他把我二人的衣服全都剝去了，求祖師爺大發慈悲，給我們報仇，也給我們三清教轉轉臉。」
说着话，来到里面。一见老仙翁，老仙翁这个气就大了，说：「两个东西，怎么这样不要脸？连裤子都没了？」张道陵说：「祖师爷有所不知，尘世上出了一个济颠和尚，兴三宝，灭三清，他说：‘三清教没有人，都是畜类，全都是披毛戴角，都是四造所生，脊背朝天，横骨插心。’他把我二人的衣服全都剥去了，求祖师爷大发慈悲，给我们报仇，也给我们三清教转转脸。」
Talking as they went, they came inside. When the Old Immortal Elder saw them, he was furious. “You two creatures,” he said, “how can you be so shameless? Not even trousers on?” “There is something you don’t know, Patriarch,” said Zhang Daoling. “A monk called Crazy Ji has appeared in the world who is raising up the Three Jewels and wiping out the Three Pure Ones. He says, ‘There’s not a human being in the Sanqing Sect. They’re all beasts, every one of them wearing fur and horns, all spawned of the four births, with their backs to the sky and a cross-bone through the heart.’ He stripped every bit of clothing off us two. We beg you, Patriarch, show great mercy and take revenge for us, and win back a little face for our Sanqing Sect.”
