Now, at daybreak the next morning, Sanzang and his disciples packed to go on. But Zhenyuanzi and Pilgrim had sworn brotherhood, and the two got on so well that he simply would not let them leave. He prepared more food and entertained them, keeping them there for five or six days. Since taking the Herbal Reversion Elixir, the elder truly seemed to have been reborn in flesh and bone: his spirit was fresh and his body strong. But his heart was set on fetching the scriptures. How could he agree to linger? There was nothing for it: at last they left.
師徒別了上路，早見一座高山。三藏道：「徒弟，前面有山險峻，恐馬不能前，大家須仔細仔細。」行者道：「師父放心，我等自然理會。」好猴王，他在馬前橫擔著棒，剖開山路，上了高崖，看不盡：
峰巖重疊，澗壑彎環。虎狼成陣走，麂鹿作群行。無數獐𤜱鑽簇簇，滿山狐兔聚叢叢。千尺大蟒，萬丈長蛇。大蟒噴愁霧，長蛇吐怪風。道旁荊棘牽漫，嶺上松柟秀麗。薜蘿滿目，芳草連天。影落滄溟北，雲開斗柄南。萬古常含元氣老，千峰巍列日光寒。

Master and disciples took their leave and set out, and soon a tall mountain came into view. Sanzang said, “Disciples, the mountain ahead is steep and dangerous. I fear the horse cannot go on. We must all be very, very careful.” Pilgrim said, “Set your mind at rest, Master. We know what to do.” What a Monkey King! With his cudgel held crosswise, he went ahead of the horse, opening a path up the mountain. They climbed to a high crag, where the sights were beyond counting:
Peaks and cliffs rise fold on fold;streams and ravines wind round and round.Tigers and wolves move in companies;muntjac and deer travel in herds.Countless deer and beasts press through the thickets;foxes and hares crowd every slope.Pythons a thousand feet long,snakes ten thousand fathoms in length.The pythons breathe a mournful mist;the snakes spit uncanny winds.Thorns sprawl along the path;pines and nanmu trees stand lovely on the ridge.Creepers fill the eye;sweet grass stretches to the sky.Its shadow falls north of the vast blue sea;clouds part south of the Dipper’s handle.Through all the ages it has held the ancient primal breath;a thousand peaks stand towering in the cold sunlight.

The elder trembled in the saddle. The Great Sage Sun put his powers to work, whirling his iron cudgel and giving a roar that sent wolves and other creatures scrambling, tigers and leopards fleeing.
