Shen Gongbao talks Yin Jiao into turning against the Zhou

A poem says:

Gongbao’s heart was set on wickedness;King Zhou’s two sons died on the field of battle.First he drove Yin Hong to turn against the Zhou;now he brings Taisui, god of the year, to his death as well.

His long tongue stirred up trouble and made it come to pass;how busy he was, courting disaster with clever words!Though Heaven’s will had meant it so,why need he have stooped to such petty tale-bearing!

Now, the Yuyi Immortal was rolling about on the ground, crying over and over, “The pain is killing me!” The Daoist rose and walked slowly over to him. “You went off just now to eat a vegetarian meal,” he asked. “Why are you like this?” “I ate some pastries,” the great roc answered, “and now my belly aches.” “If they don’t agree with you, throw them up,” said the Daoist. The great roc really did try to throw them up, and before he knew it out it all came: something the size of a hen’s egg, gleaming white and running on without a break, like a silver cord, and it held his heart and liver locked fast. The great roc felt something strange, and when he tried to pull it out, the pulling only hurt his heart. Badly frightened, the great roc knew this was bad news. He was about to turn away when he saw the Daoist pass a hand over his face and give a great shout: “You cursed creature, you! Do you know who I am?” — this Daoist was none other than the Daoist Randeng of the Primal Awakening Cave on Mount Lingjiu — and he cursed him: “You cursed creature! Jiang Ziya holds the command of Jade Emptiness to aid the sage ruler, put down disorder, rescue the drowning and save the burning, console the people and punish the guilty. Why did you turn wolf-hearted and want to eat even me? You are helping the wicked do evil!” He ordered the Yellow-Turbaned Strongman: “Hang this cursed creature up in the big pine tree. When Jiang Ziya has overthrown King Zhou, there’ll be time enough to let him go!” The great roc hurriedly pleaded, “Master, in your great compassion, pardon your disciple! Your disciple was a fool for a moment and let others egg him on. From now on I know my fault, and I will never dare so much as cast an eye on Xiqi again.” Randeng said, “You found the Way in the time of the Heavenly Sovereign, and yet you don’t know which way the great tide of fortune runs, you can’t tell true from false, and you still let others egg you on. That is truly hateful. I will never forgive you!” Again and again the great roc begged him: “Have pity on my thousand years of toil! I beg you, Master, have mercy!” Randeng said, “If you are willing to mend your ways and return to the right, you must take me as your master; only then can I let you go.” At once the great roc cried out with all his heart, “I will gladly take you as my master, Master, and cultivate my way to the true fruit.” “Since it is so,” said Randeng, “let me release you.” He pointed with his finger, and the hundred and eight prayer beads came up out of the bird’s belly, just as they had been. So the great roc submitted to the Daoist Randeng and went to Mount Lingjiu to cultivate the Way. But no more of that.
