地行妙術法應玄，誰識張奎更占先。猛獸崖前身已死，澠池城下婦歸泉。許多功業成何用，幾度勳名亦枉然。留得兩行青史在，後來成敗總由天。

A poem says:
The wondrous art of travelling through the earth was deep and mysterious;yet who knew that Zhang Kui would be a step ahead?Before Fierce Beast Cliff the husband lay dead;below the walls of Mianchi the wife went down to the Yellow Springs.What use, in the end, were all their deeds?Time and again they won fame and honour, and all for nothing.They left behind two lines in the green annals;success and failure, after all, rest with Heaven.
話說子牙在中軍正議進兵之策，忽報：「張奎搦戰。」哪吒曰：「弟子愿往。」登風火輪而出，現出八臂三首，來戰張奎，大呼曰：「張奎若不早降，悔之晚矣！」張奎大怒，催開馬，仗手中刀來取。哪吒使手中鎗劈面迎來。未及三五合，哪吒將九龍神火罩祭起去，把張奎連人帶馬罩住。用手一拍，只見九條火龍一齊吐出煙火，遍地燒來。──不知張奎會地行之術，如土行孫一般。──彼時張奎見罩落將下來，知道不好，他先滾下馬，就地下去了。哪吒不曾留心看，幾乎誤了大事，只是燒死他一匹馬。哪吒掌鼓回營，見子牙，說：「張奎已被燒死。」子牙大喜。不表。且說張奎進城，對妻子曰：「今日與哪吒接戰，果然利害，被他提起火龍罩將我罩住，若不是我有地行之術，幾乎被他燒死。」高蘭英曰：「將軍今夜何不地行進他營寨，刺殺武王君臣，不是一計成功，大事已定，又何必與他爭能較勝耶！」張奎深悟曰：「夫人之言甚是有理。只因那楊戩可惡，暗害吾老母，惑亂吾心，連日神思不定，幾乎忘了。今夜必定成功。」張奎打點收拾，暗帶利刃進營。正是：

Now, Ziya was in the command tent discussing how to advance the army when a report came: “Zhang Kui is challenging us to battle.” Nezha said, “Your disciple will go.” He mounted his wheels of wind and fire and rode out, showing his three heads and eight arms, to fight Zhang Kui. He shouted, “Zhang Kui, if you don’t surrender now, you’ll be sorry when it’s too late!” Zhang Kui flew into a rage, spurred his horse forward and came at him with the sabre in his hand. Nezha met him head-on with the spear in his hand. Before they had fought three or five rounds, Nezha sent the Nine-Dragon Divine Fire Cover up into the air and trapped Zhang Kui under it, man and horse together. He clapped his hand on it, and nine fire dragons all spat smoke and flame at once, burning everything on the ground. — Little did Nezha know that Zhang Kui had the art of travelling through the earth, just like Tu Xingsun. — When Zhang Kui saw the cover coming down on him, he knew he was in trouble. He rolled off his horse first and went down into the ground. Nezha had not watched closely and almost ruined everything: all he burned to death was a horse. Nezha beat the drums and went back to camp and told Ziya, “Zhang Kui has been burned to death.” Ziya was overjoyed. But no more of that. Our story turns to Zhang Kui, who went back into the city and said to his wife, “Today I fought Nezha, and he really is formidable. He sent up his Divine Fire Cover and trapped me under it. If I hadn’t had the art of travelling through the earth, he would have burned me to death.” Gao Lanying said, “General, why not travel through the earth into their camp tonight and stab King Wu and his ministers to death? One stroke and it’s done, the great matter is settled. Why go on matching skills with them, trying to win?” Zhang Kui saw it at once: “What you say makes very good sense, my lady. Only that wretch Yang Jian murdered my old mother by a foul trick and threw my mind into confusion. These last days I haven’t been able to think straight, and I nearly forgot. Tonight I’ll surely succeed.” Zhang Kui got himself ready and set off for the camp with a sharp blade hidden on him. Truly:
武王洪福過堯舜，自有高人守大營。
武王洪福过尧舜，自有高人守大营。
King Wu’s great good fortune surpassed even Yao and Shun’s;of course he had men of power to guard his camp.
