書中交代：和尚由彌勒院把群賊趕走，和尚並不追趕，把雷鳴、陳亮、秦元亮、馬兆熊四個人的定神法撤了，這四個人給和尚行禮。和尚說：「雷鳴、陳亮你二人回了家，不在家中，又來做什麼？」雷鳴、陳亮說：「我二人要到臨安去找師父，半路碰見秦元亮，他要到臨安去給師父道謝。」和尚說：「秦元亮，你也不用去了，也不必謝。雷鳴、陳亮你二人回家罷，可要少管閒事。此時你二人印堂發暗，顏色不好，你二人急回家趨吉避凶。要多管閒事，惹出大禍，我和尚此時可沒工夫，不能管你們。千萬戒之，慎之！」

He lifted the immobilizing spell from Lei Ming, Chen Liang, Qin Yuanliang and Ma Zhaoxiong, and the four of them bowed to him. “Lei Ming, Chen Liang,” said the monk, “you two went home. Why aren’t you at home? What have you come here for?” “We were on our way to Lin’an to find you, Master,” said Lei Ming and Chen Liang, “and halfway there we ran into Qin Yuanliang. He was going to Lin’an to thank you.” “Qin Yuanliang,” said the monk, “there’s no need for you to go, and no need to thank me either. Lei Ming, Chen Liang, you two go home, and mind you keep out of other people’s business. Right now the spot between your brows has gone dark and your colour is bad. Hurry home, you two, and steer toward luck and away from harm. If you go meddling in other people’s affairs and stir up big trouble, this monk has no time just now — I won’t be able to look after you. Be careful, I tell you. Be very careful!”
雷鳴、陳亮四個人點頭，這才告辭。和尚帶領何蘭慶、陶萬春，出了彌勒院，直奔常州府而來。走在半路之上，見對面來了幾個騾馱子，有兩個騎馬的，乃是鐵面天王鄭雄同赤發瘟神牛蓋。一見和尚，二人翻身下馬，趕奔上前行禮。鄭雄說：「師父一向可好？」和尚說：「你上哪去？」鄭雄說：「我叔父在鎮雄關做總鎮，我買了些土產東西，瞧我叔叔去。師父上哪去？」和尚說：「我有要緊的事，你去罷。」鄭雄這才告辭。和尚帶著二位班頭，路過翠雲峰，和尚來到山下，有探路嘍兵盤問，和尚說：「你們到山上通稟，叫竇永衡、周堃出來，就提我是靈隱寺濟顛僧在這等他有話說。」

Lei Ming, Chen Liang and the other two nodded and took their leave. The monk, with He Lanqing and Tao Wanchun, left Maitreya Temple and headed straight for Changzhou Prefecture. Halfway there he saw several pack mules coming toward them, with two men on horseback: Zheng Xiong, the Iron-Faced Heavenly King, and Niu Gai, the Red-Haired Plague God. As soon as they saw the monk, the two of them sprang from their saddles and hurried forward to bow. “Have you been well, Master?” said Zheng Xiong. “Where are you off to?” said the monk. “My uncle is regional commander at Zhenxiong Pass,” said Zheng Xiong. “I’ve bought some local goods and I’m going to visit him. Where are you going, Master?” “I have urgent business,” said the monk. “Off you go.” Only then did Zheng Xiong take his leave. The monk led the two head constables on, and they passed by Cuiyun Peak. When the monk came to the foot of the mountain, some outlaw scouts stopped him and questioned him. “Go up the mountain and report,” said the monk. “Tell Dou Yongheng and Zhou Kun to come out. Just say Crazy Ji of Lingyin Temple is waiting here and has something to tell them.”
