Reading the note, they go in search of Zhao Family Tower;Seeing the mourning wife, the heroes show compassion

Now, once the old gentleman had explained the way, Lei Ming and Chen Liang headed straight north. Before they had gone far, there, sure enough, was the Detaiyu Grain Shop on the east side of the road. Right beside it to the north ran a broad street. The two of them turned into Old Xinglong Street and looked straight along to its east end. On the north side of the street stood a grand open gateway, with two dragon-claw pagoda trees at the door and a plaque over it that read ‘Glad to Do Good and Generous in Giving’.

Chen Liang took one look and knew they kept an ‘inside hand’ in there.

A word of explanation: what is an ‘inside hand’? It is the black talk of the greenwood. In this cant, escorts are called ‘inside hands’, and men who perform in the streets are called ‘street hands’. When Chen Liang had seen what he needed, he and Lei Ming went on east. On the east side of the gate they saw a little alley running north. Lei Ming and Chen Liang went into the alley and followed it straight north. It was very narrow, only about two feet across. “Second Brother,” said Chen Liang, “look at this alley. If a fat man came the other way, you’d never squeeze past him.” When they reached the north end and looked, they saw that behind the west wall lay the Zhao family’s garden. Lei Ming and Chen Liang stood on a rise and looked across at it. It was laid out with the greatest care: rockeries, the Yueya Brook, a Peony Pavilion, a rose trellis, little boats, a Lingering Fragrance Gallery, a Summer Retreat Tower, a Snow-Viewing Pavilion. Truly, there were flowers that never faded in any of the four seasons and grasses that stayed green through all eight festivals of the year.
