康熙二十一年，山東旱，自春徂夏，赤地千里。六月十三日小雨，始種粟。十八日大雨後，乃種豆。一日，石門莊有老叟，暮見二羊鬥山上，告村人曰：「大水至矣！」遂攜家播遷。村人共笑之。無何，雨暴注，平地水深數尺，居廬盡沒。一農人棄其兩兒，與妻扶老母奔避高阜。下視村中，匯為澤國，并不復念及兩兒。水落歸家。一村盡成墟墓，入己門，則一屋獨存，見兩兒尚并坐床頭，嬉笑無恙。咸嘆謂夫婦孝感所致。此六月二十二日事也。

In the twenty-first year of the Kangxi reign there was a drought in Shandong. From spring into summer the land lay scorched and bare for a thousand li. On the thirteenth day of the sixth month a little rain fell, and only then was the millet sown. After a heavy rain on the eighteenth, the beans were planted. One day at dusk an old man of Shimen Village saw two sheep butting each other on the hill. He told the villagers, “A great flood is coming!” Then he took his family and moved away. The villagers all laughed at him. Before long the rain came pouring down. The water stood several feet deep on level ground, and every house was under it. One farmer abandoned his two little boys and, with his wife, helped his old mother flee to high ground. Looking down, they saw the village had become one great marsh, and they gave the two boys no further thought. When the water went down they went home. The whole village was ruins and graves. But when they came through their own gate, their house alone was still standing, and there were the two boys sitting side by side on the bed, laughing and playing, quite unharmed. Everyone sighed and said it was the couple’s filial piety that had moved Heaven. This happened on the twenty-second day of the sixth month.
