李保便問：「屍首可怎麼樣呢？」婦人道：「趁此夜靜無人，背至北上坡，拋放廟後，又有誰人知曉？」李保無奈，叫婦人仍然上炕，將屍首扶起，李保背上。才待起身，不想屈申的身體甚重；連李保俱各栽倒。復又站起來，盡力的背。婦人悄悄的開門，左右看了看，說道：「趁此無人，快背著走罷。」李保背定，竟奔北上坡而來。

Now, Li Bao and his wife had murdered Qu Shen. Mrs. Li pulled out the money bag, reached in and took out the sealed packets one by one;
then she carried the lamp into the inner room,lifted up the top of the kangand hid them inside. When the two of them came out again,
Li Bao asked, “And what are we going to do with the body?” “While the night’s quiet and there’s nobody about,” said the woman, “carry it on your back to the north side of the slope and dump it behind the temple. Who’s ever going to know?” Li Bao had no choice. He had his wife get back up on the kang and prop the body upright, and he took it on his back. He was just about to stand up when — Qu Shen being so heavy — over they went, body and Li Bao together. He got to his feet again and heaved with all his strength to carry it. The woman quietly opened the door, looked left and right, and said, “There’s nobody about. Quick, carry him off.” With the body firmly on his back, Li Bao made straight for the north side of the slope.
剛然走了不遠，忽見那邊有個黑影兒一晃。李保覺得眼前金花亂迸，汗毛皆乍，身體一閃，將死屍擲於地上，他便不顧性命的往南上坡跑來。只聽婦人道：「在這裡呢！你往哪裡跑？」李保喘吁吁地道：「把我嚇糊塗了。剛然到北上坡不遠，誰知那邊有個人，因此將屍首擲於地上，就跑回來了。不想跑過去了。」婦人道：「這是你『疑心生暗鬼』。你忘了北上坡那棵小柳樹兒了，你必是拿他當作人了。」李保方才省悟，連忙道：「快關門罷。」婦人道：「門且別關，還沒有完事呢。」李保問道：「還有什麼事？」婦人道：「那頭驢怎麼樣？留在家中，豈不是個禍胎麼？」李保道：「是呀！依你怎麼樣？」婦人道：「你連這麼個主意也沒有，把它轟出去就完了。」李保道：「豈不可惜了的？」婦人道：「你發了這麼些財，還稀罕這個驢？」李保聞聽，連忙到了院裡，將偏韁解開，拉著往外就走。驢子到了門前，再不肯走。好狠婦人！提起門閂，照著驢子的後胯就是一下。驢子負痛，往外一竄。李保順手一撒，婦人又將門閂從後面一戳，那驢子便跑下坡去了。

He had not gone far when he suddenly saw a dark shape flit across over there. Golden sparks burst before Li Bao’s eyes and every hair on his body stood on end. He swerved, flung the corpse to the ground and ran for his life back toward the south side. Then he heard his wife say, “Here! Where are you running to?” “I was scared out of my wits,” said Li Bao, gasping for breath. “I’d only gone a little way toward the north side when — who’d have thought it — there was somebody over there. So I threw the body down and ran back. I never knew I’d run right past.” “That’s ‘suspicion breeding ghosts in the dark,’” said the woman. “You forgot that little willow tree on the north side. You must have taken it for a man.” Only then did Li Bao see it. “Quick, shut the door,” he said. “Don’t shut it yet,” said the woman. “We’re not finished.” “What else is there?” asked Li Bao. “What about that donkey?” said the woman. “Keep it here, and it’ll be the seed of our ruin, won’t it?” “That’s right!” said Li Bao. “What do you say we do?” “Can’t you even think of that much?” said the woman. “Drive it out, and that’s the end of it.” “Isn’t that a waste?” said Li Bao. “You’ve made all this money, and you still care about a donkey?” said the woman. At that Li Bao hurried into the yard, untied the donkey’s tether and led it out. But when it reached the gate, the donkey would go no farther. What a hard-hearted woman! She snatched up the door bar and gave the donkey a whack across the haunches. Stung, the donkey bolted out. Li Bao let go, the woman jabbed it from behind with the bar, and off the donkey ran down the slope.
惡夫婦進門，這才將門關好。李保總是心跳不止，倒是婦人坦然自得，並教給李保：「明日依然照舊，只管井邊汲水。倘若北上坡有人看見死屍，你只管前去看看，省得叫別人生疑心。候事情安靜之後，咱們再慢慢受用。你說這件事情，作的乾淨不乾淨，嚴密不嚴密？」婦人一片話說的李保也壯起膽來。說著話，不覺的雞已三唱，天光發曉，路上已有行人。
恶夫妇进门，这才将门关好。李保总是心跳不止，倒是妇人坦然自得，并教给李保：「明日依然照旧，只管井边汲水。倘若北上坡有人看见死尸，你只管前去看看，省得叫别人生疑心。候事情安静之后，咱们再慢慢受用。你说这件事情，作的干净不干净，严密不严密？」妇人一片话说的李保也壮起胆来。说着话，不觉的鸡已三唱，天光发晓，路上已有行人。
The wicked pair went in, and only now did they shut the door properly. Li Bao’s heart would not stop pounding, but his wife was perfectly calm and pleased with herself, and she coached him: “Tomorrow you carry on just as usual and go and draw water at the well. If anyone sees the body on the north side, you just go and have a look like everybody else, so nobody gets suspicious. Once things have quieted down, we can enjoy it at our leisure. Now tell me — wasn’t that a clean job? Wasn’t it tight?” Her talk put some courage into Li Bao too. As they talked, before they knew it the cock had crowed three times. Day was breaking, and there were already people on the road.
