What is ours
Danshu Books has put a great deal of work, time and money into what you read here. Apart from the original Chinese texts, everything on danshubooks.com is the work of Danshu Books and is protected by copyright and related rights. This includes:
- the English translations;
- the plain-Chinese (白話) renderings;
- the notes, introductions, synopses, character descriptions and other editorial writing;
- the illustrations, cover art and character portraits;
- the selection, arrangement and editing of the texts, including their corrections and the pairing of original and translation paragraph by paragraph;
- the site’s design, typography and layout, its software, and the Danshu name and seal.
What is not ours
The classical Chinese originals were written in the Ming and Qing dynasties and are in the public domain. We claim no rights in them, and anyone may use them. Each book’s page names the source of our Chinese text.
The older English translations listed on book pages belong to their own publishers or are in the public domain; we only list them and reuse none of their text. Typefaces and other third-party components remain under their own licences.
Made with AI, edited by us
Our translations, renderings, notes and illustrations are made with AI models working to rules, glossaries and instructions we wrote, and are then checked, reviewed, selected and corrected through our editorial process. The law on works made with AI differs from country to country and is still developing. We claim every right the law of each country allows us. Where such rights are not recognised, use of the content is still governed by our Terms of Use, which you accept by using the site.

You may read the content on the site and quote short passages with credit to “Danshu Books” and a link to the page, as set out in the Terms of Use. Copying the content in bulk, scraping or mirroring the site, republishing the content, or using it to train AI models needs our written permission. Reporting infringement
If you find our content copied elsewhere, or believe something on our site infringes your rights, write to [email protected] with the address of each page concerned, a description of the work, and how to reach you. We look into every report and act promptly.
