The Two Bans

A line drawing in the manner of a late-Qing lithographed edition: on a night in a mountain house, a bearded traveller in a headcloth and wide-sleeved robe sits at a low square table, cup in one hand and the other raised in thanks, while a stout laughing old woman across from him pours wine into a bowl and holds out a hand to urge him on; wine jars, roast meat and cakes stand on the table, tall oil lamps, a lattice window with hanging herbs and a side table with pots fill the room, and a doorway at the left shows a courtyard well and a gnarled pine.
