A scholar of Anqiu was versed in the art of divination. He was a lewd and dissolute man with no restraint, and whenever he had in mind some business of boring through walls and slipping through gaps, he would first cast a divination about it. One day he suddenly fell ill. Medicine did him no good. “I have truly seen something,” he said. “The underworld is angry with me for making free with the decrees of Heaven, and I am to be severely punished. What can medicine do?” Before long he suddenly went blind, and both his hands broke of themselves, for no reason.
