Chong Houhu, greedy and cruel, is more savage still;he strips the people of their fat and marrow to fatten himself.Pandering to his lord, he schemes to last a thousand years;buying himself bolt-holes, he knows only a hundred ways to squeeze.

Charged with overseeing the works, he drives men past their strength;seizing his chance, he stirs up strife, and the king’s great design wastes away.Ziya, who has the Way, makes war on one who has none:his state falls, he perishes, and everything withers.
話說紂王同文武欣然回至大殿，眾官侍立。天子傳旨：「釋放費仲、尤渾。」彼時微子出班奏曰：「費、尤二人，乃太師所參，繫獄聽勘者。今太師出兵未遠，即時釋赦，似亦不可。」紂王曰：「費、尤二人原無罪，係太師條陳屈陷，朕豈不明？皇伯不必以成議而陷忠良也。」微子不言下殿。不一時，赦出二人，官還原職，隨朝保駕。紂王心甚歡悅。又見聞太師遠征，放心恣樂，一無忌憚。時當三春天氣，景物韶華，御園牡丹盛開。傳旨：「同百官往御花園賞牡丹，以繼君臣同樂，效虞廷賡歌喜起之盛事。」百官領旨，隨駕進園。正是：
天上四時春作首，人間最富帝王家。

Now, King Zhou returned in high spirits to the great hall with his officials, civil and military, and they all stood in attendance. The Son of Heaven sent down a command: “Release Fei Zhong and You Hun.” At that, Weizi stepped out of the ranks and said, “Fei Zhong and You Hun were impeached by the Grand Preceptor and are in prison awaiting trial. The Grand Preceptor’s army has not gone far. To pardon and release them at once would hardly seem proper.” King Zhou said, “Fei Zhong and You Hun never did anything wrong. The Grand Preceptor’s proposals wronged them — do you think We cannot see that? Royal uncle, you need not hold to a decision already made in order to ruin loyal and good men.” Weizi said no more and left the hall. Before long the two men were pardoned and released and restored to their old offices, to attend court and serve the king. King Zhou was delighted. And with Grand Preceptor Wen away on a distant campaign, he gave himself up to his pleasures and feared nothing at all. It was spring, the season at its loveliest, and the tree peonies in the royal garden were in full bloom. He sent down a command: “We will go with all the officials to the royal garden to admire the tree peonies, so that king and ministers may share their joy, after the glorious example of Shun’s court and its answering songs, when the arms and legs were glad and the head rose up.” The officials received the command and followed the king into the garden. Truly:
in heaven, of the four seasons, spring comes first;among men, none are richer than the house of a king.
