A poem says:
Long he trained at the Daoist gate, in a purple palace of the True, yet his cruelty knew no bounds and his nature was crueller still. The five cravings, greed and folly made up his wicked karma;the good fruit of the three flowers was nothing but a sham.
King Zhou’s royal enterprise draws to evening at the Mulberry Grove;the martial might of King Wu of Zhou is cold as auspicious snow.Sigh for Ma Yuan, who went off to become a buddha, while Xiqi still shrank in fear of having its hearts cut out.

Now, Huang Feihu fought a great battle with Yin Hong. Their two mounts closed, spear and halberd rose and fell, and back and forth they fought for some twenty bouts. Huang Feihu’s spearwork was like racing wind and flashing lightning; he darted to and fro as if flying and pressed in close inside Yin Hong’s guard, and Yin Hong could not hold him off. Then Pang Hong galloped up to help, and on this side Huang Tianlu spurred his horse and, spear shaking, held Pang Hong off. Liu Fu came flying in, whirling his broadsword, and Huang Tianjue met him and fought him too. When Gou Zhang saw the other generals joining in, he charged in as well; Huang Tianxiang, only fourteen years old, gave a great shout — “Wait! Here I come!” — and dashed out with spear and horse to fight Gou Zhang. Bi Huan galloped up, laying about him with his maces, and Huang Tianhua raised his twin hammers to meet him. Now, Yin Hong could not hold out against Huang Feihu; he feinted with his halberd and fled. Huang Feihu came after him. Yin Hong took out the Yin-Yang Mirror and flashed its white light. Huang Feihu tumbled from his mount, and Zheng Lun was already dashing out in front of the ranks to carry him off. When Huang Tianhua saw his father fall, he left Bi Huan and raced to his father’s rescue. Yin Hong saw that Huang Tianhua rode a jade qilin and knew him for a man of the Way; fearing he might be outwitted, he quickly took out the mirror and flashed it as before. Huang Tianhua fell from the saddle and was taken too. Gou Zhang, scorning Huang Tianxiang for his youth, paid him no heed, and Tianxiang’s spear caught him full in the left thigh; he fled in defeat back to his field camp. Having taken two generals in one battle, Yin Hong beat the drums of victory and returned to camp. Now, of the five Huangs, father and sons, who had gone out of the city, two had been taken and only three came back. They went into the chancellor’s residence and reported to Ziya in tears. Ziya was greatly alarmed and asked how it had happened, and Tianjue and the others told him the whole story: “He flashes a mirror, and at once men are taken.” Ziya was most displeased. Meanwhile Yin Hong, back in his camp, ordered, “Carry in the two generals we captured.” Plainly showing off his Daoist arts, Yin Hong took out the mirror and flashed its red half. Huang Feihu and his son opened their eyes to find themselves bound with ropes; and when they were pushed before the tent, Huang Tianhua was so furious that his three corpse spirits leapt and smoke poured from his seven apertures. Huang Feihu said, “Aren’t you the second prince?” Yin Hong barked, “What makes you think I’m not?” Huang Feihu said, “If you are the second prince, don’t you know me, Huang Feihu, Prince Wucheng? Don’t you remember how back then I let you go at the pavilion ten li out of the city, and saved you at the Meridian Gate?” When Yin Hong heard this, he cried out, “Ah! So you are my great benefactor, General Huang!” Yin Hong hurried down from his seat in the tent and untied him with his own hands, and ordered Huang Tianhua released as well. Yin Hong said, “Why did you go over to Zhou?” Feihu bowed low. “Your Highness, hear me: your servant is ashamed beyond words. King Zhou is without the Way. Because he wronged your servant’s wife, I left the darkness for the light and gave my allegiance to the lord of Zhou. What is more, of the realm’s three parts, two now belong to Zhou, and of the eight hundred lords of the realm there is not one that has not submitted. King Zhou has committed ten great crimes and offended the whole realm: he has minced great ministers, seared upright men, cut out a worthy man’s heart, killed his wife and slaughtered his sons, given himself to debauchery without the Way, drowned himself in wine and women, raised lofty halls with carved beams and building works on every side, so that Heaven grieves and the people resent him, and no one in the realm wishes to live alongside him. This Your Highness knows. Now that Your Highness has set us free, father and son, there could be no greater kindness.” Zheng Lun, at his side, quickly stopped him. “Your Highness must not lightly release the Huangs, father and son. I fear that once they go back, they will help the wicked and stir up strife again. I beg Your Highness to consider.” Yin Hong laughed. “General Huang once saved the lives of us two brothers; today it is only right that I repay him. I shall let him go this once; if I take him a second time, he shall face the law of the land.” He called to his attendants, “Bring his clothes and armour and give them back to him.” Yin Hong said, “General Huang, the kindness of former days I have now repaid; after this there is nothing more between us. If we meet again, take care, and do not bring grief upon yourself!” Huang Feihu thanked him and left the camp. Truly:
