Chu Daoyuan looked. “Brother,” he said, “look, here comes Crazy Ji.” “Good,” said Zhang Daoling. “Leave him to me.” He reached in and pulled out the Banner of Lost Ways, Heaven and Earth Overturned. “Crazy Ji, do you know who this mountain hermit is?” “Chu Daoyuan, wait a moment,” said the monk. “Every grievance has its author, every debt its debtor. The quarrel is between you and me. My disciples never crossed you. Let my disciples go their way, and whatever you’ve got to say, we’ll say it after.” “Very well,” said Chu Daoyuan. The monk went over and helped Lei Ming and Chen Liang up, and gave the two of them a piece of medicine to eat, and the two of them were well again. “Master,” said Lei Ming and Chen Liang, “where are you off to, sir?” “Never you two mind,” said the monk. “Go on to Baishui Lake and wait for me. I’ll be along shortly.”
這兩個人走了。和尚這才說：「你們兩個老道，打算怎么樣？」張道陵說：「和尚，你無故欺負三清教的人，今天山人特來找你，你可認識山人這寶貝？」和尚說：「我認識怎么樣？」張道陵說：「你要知道我的利害，跪倒給我磕頭，叫我三聲祖師爺，饒你不死。如要不然，當時我拿這乾坤顛倒迷路旗，結果你的性命。」和尚哈哈一笑說：「我叫你三聲孩子。」張道陵一聽，氣往上撞，當時一晃迷路旗，口中念念有詞，眼瞧和尚滴溜溜轉，東倒西歪。老道說聲「敕令」，和尚翻身栽倒。張道陵一看，說：「賢弟你看見了，我已將和尚治住，是你殺我殺？」褚道緣說：「我立刻殺他。」隨即趕過去，惡狠狠照定和尚脖頸就是一劍。只聽寶劍噹啷啷一響，和尚脖子冒火星。褚道緣說：「和尚好結實脖子。」張道陵說：「這不是和尚罷。」一句話說破，再一瞧，是半截石頭樁，和尚蹤跡不見。張道陵說：「了不得，這叫替行挪移大搬運。這和尚能為不小，既是我這寶貝拿不了他，比你我的道行大，你我不是他的對手，咱們得請能人拿他。」褚道緣說：「請誰去？」

If not, I’ll take this Banner of Lost Ways, Heaven and Earth Overturned, and finish you off here and now.” The monk gave a great laugh. “I’ll call you sonny three times.” At that, rage surged up in Zhang Daoling. At once he shook the banner, muttering a spell, and before their eyes the monk spun round and round, swaying this way and that. The old Daoist said, “By command!” and the monk toppled over and fell. Zhang Daoling looked. “Brother, you saw it. I’ve got the monk under control. Will you kill him, or shall I?” “I’ll kill him right now,” said Chu Daoyuan, and he rushed over and, with murder in his face, struck one blow of his sword straight at the monk’s neck. There was a great clang from the sword, and sparks flew from the monk’s neck. “What a tough neck that monk’s got,” said Chu Daoyuan. “That isn’t the monk, is it?” said Zhang Daoling. The moment the words were out the trick was laid bare. They looked again: it was half a stone hitching post, and of the monk there was no trace. “This is bad,” said Zhang Daoling. “That’s what they call Substitute-and-Shift, the Great Removal. This monk’s powers are no small thing. If my treasure can’t take him, his cultivation is greater than yours or mine. We’re no match for him. We’ll have to ask someone more able to come and take him.” “Who shall we ask?” said Chu Daoyuan.
張道陵說：「請你師爺爺紫霞真人李涵齡去。」褚道緣說：「不行，我師爺爺決不管。」張道陵說：「你爺爺或者能與幫助更妙。不然，到八卦山去請坎離真人魯修真來。他有一宗鎮觀之寶，名曰乾坤子午混元袋，勿論什麼妖精裝在裡面，一時三刻化為膿血。島洞金仙，裝在裡面，能把道行沒了，連西方的羅漢裝上，都能把金光散了。」褚道緣一想說：「也好。」二人這才夠奔八卦山去了。和尚借遁法走了，回歸白水湖。剛來到湖岸，雷鳴、陳亮趕過來行禮說：「承蒙師父救命，要不然，已死在老道之手。」和尚說：「不便行禮。」雷鳴、陳亮說：「師父那台上捉妖的和尚是誰？」濟公說：「那是假濟顛。」雷鳴說：「怎么濟顛還有假的？」和尚說：「那是自然，你瞧，了不得了，這個假濟顛要了不得。」

“Ask your grand-master, the Perfected One Zixia, Li Hanling,” said Zhang Daoling. “That won’t do,” said Chu Daoyuan. “My grand-master would never take a hand in this.” “If your grand-master were willing to help, so much the better,” said Zhang Daoling. “If not, we’ll go to Mount Bagua and ask the Perfected One Kanli, Lu Xiuzhen, to come. He has a treasure that guards his temple, called the Primordial Bag of Heaven and Earth, Midnight and Noon. Whatever demon you put inside it, within an hour or two it melts into pus and blood. Put a golden immortal of the isles and grottoes inside, and his cultivation is gone. Even an arhat from the Western Heaven, put in that bag, has his golden light scattered.” Chu Daoyuan thought it over. “All right,” he said. And the two of them set off for Mount Bagua. The monk, meanwhile, had made off by his vanishing arts and gone back to Baishui Lake. He had just reached the lakeshore when Lei Ming and Chen Liang hurried over and saluted him. “Thank you, Master, for saving our lives. If not for you, we’d have died at those Daoists’ hands.” “No need for ceremony,” said the monk. “Master,” said Lei Ming and Chen Liang, “who’s that monk up on the platform catching the demon?” “That’s the false Crazy Ji,” said Ji Gong. “What,” said Lei Ming, “is there a false Crazy Ji too?” “Naturally,” said the monk. “Look — oh, that’s bad! This false Crazy Ji is in real trouble.”
