話說老仙翁把雷鳴、陳亮制住，吩咐把二人抬到後面去結果性命。這個時節，旁邊過來一人說：「師爺，你老人家大發慈悲罷！這兩個人是弟子的結拜兄弟，又是我的救命恩人。求祖師爺看在弟子面上，饒恕他二人罷！二位賢弟跟我到後面去。」雷鳴、陳亮一看，說話這人乃是夜行鬼小崑崙郭順。雷鳴、陳亮正破口大罵，郭順說：「二位賢弟別罵了。」立刻把雷鳴、陳亮帶到後面去，老仙翁還怒氣未息。天光剛亮，只聽外面一聲「無量佛」，小道童出來一看，來者乃是孫道全。

Now, the Old Immortal Elder had pinned Lei Ming and Chen Liang where they stood, and he ordered the two of them carried round the back to be finished off. Just then a man stepped up from the side and said, “Patriarch, sir, in your great mercy, let them go! These two are my sworn brothers, and they once saved my life. I beg you, Patriarch, for your disciple’s sake, spare the pair of them! Come with me round the back, my brothers.” Lei Ming and Chen Liang looked: the man speaking was the Night-Walking Ghost, Little Kunlun, Guo Shun. Lei Ming and Chen Liang were cursing at the tops of their voices. “Stop cursing, brothers,” said Guo Shun. At once he took Lei Ming and Chen Liang round the back, and still the Old Immortal Elder’s anger had not cooled. Just as day was breaking, a voice outside called, “Limitless Buddha!” A little Daoist acolyte went out to look, and the caller was Sun Daoquan.
書中交代，孫道全自從山下見雷鳴、陳亮追趕老仙翁去，他也無法，拿著攝魂瓶，夠奔永寧村。來到王安士家一打門，家人一看，說：「道爺來了，可曾把我們員外爺的魂給找來？」孫道全說：「找來了。」家人立刻同孫道全來到裡面，一看王員外已然如同死人一般。

A word of explanation: ever since Sun Daoquan, at the foot of the mountain, had watched Lei Ming and Chen Liang go off after the Old Immortal Elder, there had been nothing he could do, so he took the Soul-Seizing Vase and made straight for Yongning Village. When he came to Wang Anshi’s house and knocked at the gate, a servant looked out and said, “The Daoist Master is back! Have you found our squire’s soul and brought it home?” “I have,” said Sun Daoquan. The servant at once brought Sun Daoquan inside, and he saw that Squire Wang lay there already like a dead man.
孫道全把攝魂瓶拿出來，打開一念咒，王安士的魂歸了竅。當時王安士「啊呀」了一聲，一睜眼說：「我好悶得很。」眾人一瞧，老員外說出話來都喜歡了。安人說：「員外你好了。」員外說：「我沒有病，仿佛做了一場大夢。」眾家人說：「員外爺，你躺了好幾天了，昏迷不醒。要不是這位仙長把你老人家救了，就了不得了。」老員外說：「原來如此。」立刻翻身起來，如同好人一般，要給老道磕頭。孫道全說：「老員外千萬別給我磕頭，我要損陽壽。」家人先給拿過桂圓茶來，王安士喝了。就覺得心裡發空，家裡有現成的燕窩粥，先給員外喝了一碗，老員外請真人外面書房坐，老員外也就不敢給老道行禮了，穿好了衣服，陪著來到書房，叫家人預備上等果酒。眾人無不感念老道的好處，家人把酒擺上，老員外陪著孫道全喝酒談心。老道喝著酒，忽然往東一看，一股妖氣直衝霄漢。書房是西房，正往東看，老道就問：「老員外，這東院裡是甚么人住著？」王安士說：「那院裡是我一個拜弟，姓韓名成，跟我也是世交？」老道說：「他家裡有什麼人？」王安士說：「他家裡夫婦兩個，有一個兒子，叫韓文美，有媳婦，道爺說這個做什麼？」孫道全說：「我看那院裡有一股妖氣衝天，那院中準有妖精。」王安士一聽，說道：「沒聽說他家裡鬧妖精，真人看著準有妖精？」老道說：「那不假，準有。」王安士一想，我跟韓員外至有交情，既知道焉有不管之理：說：「道爺，既瞧出來，何妨慈悲，跟我過去給把妖精除了。那院裡韓員外跟我至好，也不是外人。」孫道全說：「可以，我山人去瞧瞧。」

Sun Daoquan took out the Soul-Seizing Vase, opened it and recited a spell, and Wang Anshi’s soul went back into his body. Wang Anshi gave an “Aiya!”, opened his eyes and said, “I feel so stifled.” Everyone looked, and when they heard the old squire speak, they were all overjoyed. “Squire, you’re better!” said the old lady. “I wasn’t ill,” said the squire. “It was as if I’d had a long dream.” “Squire, sir,” said the servants, “you’ve been lying here for days, out cold, and you wouldn’t come round. If this immortal master hadn’t saved you, it would have been the end of you.” “So that’s how it was,” said the old squire. At once he turned over and got up, as well as any healthy man, and went to kowtow to the Daoist. “Old Squire, whatever you do, don’t kowtow to me,” said Sun Daoquan. “It would cut short my years.” The servants first brought longan tea, and Wang Anshi drank it. He felt hollow inside, and there was bird’s-nest congee ready in the house, so they gave the squire a bowl of that first. The old squire invited the Perfected One to sit in the study out at the front, and after that he didn’t dare bow to the Daoist again. He got properly dressed, went with him to the study and told the servants to set out the finest fruit and wine. Every one of them was grateful to the Daoist for what he had done. The servants laid out the wine, and the old squire kept Sun Daoquan company, drinking and talking heart to heart. As the Daoist drank, he happened to glance eastward and saw a plume of demonic vapour shooting straight up to the clouds. The study was a west-side room, so he was looking straight east. “Old Squire,” the Daoist asked, “who lives in the courtyard to the east?” “That’s the home of a sworn brother of mine,” said Wang Anshi, “Han Cheng by name. Our families have been friends for generations.” “Who is there in his household?” asked the Daoist. “He and his wife,” said Wang Anshi, “and a son called Han Wenmei, who has a wife. Why do you ask, Daoist Master?” “I see a plume of demonic vapour rising to the sky from that courtyard,” said Sun Daoquan. “There must be a demon in there.” When Wang Anshi heard this, he said, “I’ve never heard of any demon making trouble in his house. Are you sure there’s a demon, Perfected One?” “It’s no lie,” said the Daoist. “There’s one there, sure enough.” Wang Anshi thought: Old Master Han and I are the closest of friends, and now that I know, how could I leave it alone? “Daoist Master,” he said, “since you’ve spotted it, why not show some mercy and come over with me to get rid of the demon? Old Master Han over there is my dearest friend; he’s no stranger.” “Very well,” said Sun Daoquan. “This man of the mountains will go and take a look.”
