話說孫道全出了永寧村，正往前走，忽聽由後面起了一陣怪風，刮的走石飛沙四起。孫道全一聞這陣風，異香撲鼻，心裡說：「了不得了，這個妖精追下我來，要跟我做對。」正在心中思想，何嘗不是？只聽後面有人說話：「好孫道全，你往哪走？仙姑娘跟你遠日無冤，近日無讎，你敗我的事，拆散我的金玉良緣。我仙姑這幾年沒吃人了，今天我開開殺戒，把你吃了，我好飽餐一頓。」孫道全一回頭，果然是那個婦人追下來了。孫道全趕緊拉出寶劍一指，說：「好妖怪，你好大膽量，竟敢跟山人前來做對？我今天結果你的性命。」妖精說：「並非我仙姑娘找你，你無故懷著鬼胎，壞我的事，我焉能饒你？」孫道全擺劍就剁，妖精一閃身，抖手舉起一塊混元如意石，這石頭能大能小，起在空中好似一座泰山，照孫道全頭頂打來。

Now, Sun Daoquan had left Yongning Village and was going on his way when suddenly a strange wind rose behind him, so fierce that stones rolled and sand flew up on every side. As the wind reached him, Sun Daoquan caught a rare fragrance that went straight up his nose. “This is bad,” he said to himself. “That demon has come after me. She means to have it out with me.” He was still turning it over in his mind, and wasn’t it so? He heard someone speak behind him: “Well, Sun Daoquan! Where do you think you’re going? I, the Immortal Lady, have had no quarrel with you, not in days long past nor in days just gone, and you spoil my affairs and break up my perfect match of gold and jade. I haven’t eaten a man these several years. Today I’ll break my precept against killing and eat you, and have myself a good full meal.” Sun Daoquan looked round, and sure enough, that woman was coming after him. Sun Daoquan quickly drew his precious sword and pointed it at her. “Wicked demon! What nerve you have, daring to set yourself against this man of the mountains! Today I’ll put an end to your life.” “It isn’t that I, the Immortal Lady, came looking for you,” said the demon. “You were up to something sly for no reason at all and spoiled my affairs. How could I let you off?” Sun Daoquan swung his sword and chopped at her. The demon dodged aside, gave her hand a flick and raised up a Primal Unity Wishing Stone. This stone could grow large or small; up in the air it was like Mount Tai itself, and it came crashing down toward the top of Sun Daoquan’s head.

Sun Daoquan had some ability of his own; he had been taught by Shen Miaoliang, the Perfected One Guangfa. Seeing the stone come down on him, he hurriedly recited a spell to guard his body, formed the sword-seal with his fingers and pointed, crying, “By command!” At once a beam of yellow light showed from the stone, and it dropped to the ground. “Well, Sun Daoquan!” said the demon when she saw it. “So you dare break my magic treasure!” At once she flicked her hand again, and Sun Daoquan saw countless snakes rushing at him to bite. Sun Daoquan knew this was a trick to fool the eye. At once he bit open the tip of his tongue and spat upward, and all the snakes showed what they really were: every one of them was paper. The demon flew into a rage. “Sun Daoquan, you dare break my magic arts!” As she spoke, she sucked in her belly, opened her mouth and spat out a beam of yellow light. This was her inner elixir, the work of more than three thousand years. At once Sun Daoquan felt his body go numb, and he toppled over and fell. The demon gave a great laugh. “And I wondered how much power you had! So this is all it comes to. Today it’s fated that I eat you.” At once she picked Sun Daoquan up, carried him to a temple of the mountain god and set him down inside. The demon shut the door and was about to take her true form and eat Sun Daoquan. Just at this moment she heard a great laugh outside the door: “Wicked creature, what gall, daring to eat my disciple! Come, come, come, let’s you and me see which of us is the better.” The demon heard it and looked out: a poor monk had come.
書中交代：來者乃是濟公。濟公由八卦山叫悟禪走後，跟坎離真人魯修真告辭。魯修真說：「聖僧何妨在我這廟裡多住幾天，你我可以盤桓盤桓。」和尚說：「我還有要緊事故，你我後會有期。」和尚出離了八卦山，往前行走，來到一個小碼頭，見王全、李福正進酒館，和尚也掀帘子進去。王全、李福剛坐下，要了一桌酒席，和尚也進來，向王全說：「鄉親才走到這裡？」王全一看，是蕭山縣樹林子裡遇見那窮和尚，王全說：「大師父，你也來了。」和尚說：「你們二位，這些日子才到這裡？」王全說：「別提了，我二人在蕭山縣遭了一場官司，耽誤了幾天？」和尚說：「鄉親你回家去罷，你不必找你表弟，找也找不著。你一天到家，你表弟也是一天到家，你兩天到家，他也兩天到家，你哪時到家，他也就到家了。」王全說：「是、是，大師父沒吃飯吧？」和尚說：「可不是。」王全說：「你在這裡一同吃罷。」和尚說：「敢情好。」王全立刻叫夥計拿過一份杯筷碗碟來，和尚就坐下。夥計把乾鮮果品菜蔬上齊，和尚大把抓菜，李福就瞧著不願意，和尚抓起來還讓呢：「你們二位吃這把。」王全一瞧，和尚真髒，滿臉抹油，王全嫌髒說：「和尚你吃罷，那盤子都是你吃。」和尚說：「我就得其所哉！」

After he had sent Wuchan off from Mount Bagua, Ji Gong took his leave of Lu Xiuzhen, the Perfected One Kanli. “Holy monk,” said Lu Xiuzhen, “why not stay a few more days in my temple? You and I could pass some time together.” “I still have urgent business,” said the monk. “We’ll meet again another day.” The monk left Mount Bagua and went on his way until he came to a small wharf, where he saw Wang Quan and Li Fu just going into a wine shop. The monk lifted the door curtain and went in too. Wang Quan and Li Fu had just sat down and ordered a full table of wine and dishes when the monk came in as well. “Only got this far, neighbour?” he said to Wang Quan. Wang Quan looked: it was the poor monk he had met in the woods in Xiaoshan County. “Reverend Master, so you’ve come too,” said Wang Quan. “You two have only got here after all these days?” said the monk. “Don’t ask,” said Wang Quan. “The two of us got caught up in a lawsuit in Xiaoshan County and lost I don’t know how many days.” “Neighbour, go on home,” said the monk. “There’s no need to look for your cousin; look all you like, you won’t find him. The day you get home, your cousin gets home that same day; two days and you’re home, he’s home in two days. Whenever you get home, he’ll be home too.” “Yes, yes,” said Wang Quan. “Reverend Master, you haven’t eaten, have you?” “That I haven’t,” said the monk. “Then eat with us here,” said Wang Quan. “Fine by me,” said the monk. At once Wang Quan called for the waiter to bring another cup, chopsticks, bowl and plate, and the monk sat down. The waiter brought in all the fresh fruit, dried fruit and dishes, and the monk grabbed the food by the handful. Li Fu looked on in disgust, and still the monk grabbed it up and pressed it on them: “You two, have this handful.” Wang Quan looked: the monk was filthy, his face smeared with grease. Finding it disgusting, Wang Quan said, “You eat, monk. All those plates are yours.” “Then I’ve found my proper place!” said the monk.
