口中叫喊：「好華雲龍球囊的！你鏢打楊大哥，我把你腦袋拿下來。」華雲龍回頭一看，嚇得驚慌失色。知道陸通是兩隻飛毛腿，賊人料想走不脫。眼看就趕到了，華雲龍趕緊上了一棵大樹。陸通他不會上樹，來到這裡說：「華雲龍你下來。我打你一百棍，就饒了你。」華雲龍一想，慢說打一百棍，恐怕打一棍就死了。陸通在下面直嚷：「你要不下來，我把樹打倒了。」說著話拿棍就打。華雲龍一瞧，他拿棍打的這個樹直晃，工夫大了，真許打倒了。華雲龍賊心生智，把英雄氅脫下來，說：「陸通，你瞧，我要駕雲。」把英雄氅往西一捺。陸通本是渾人，拿棍就追過去。華雲龍往東跳下來。陸通沒瞧見。賊人這才逃脫了。一看天色已晚，華雲龍一想：「我奔蓬萊觀，找矮腳真人孔貴。」想罷來到廟外。剛要叫門，自己心中一動：「且慢。倘若楊明、雷鳴、陳亮在這裡，可了不得。莫若我暗中瞧探瞧探。」主意已定，擰身躥上房去。一見西配房有燈光。華雲龍來至切近，暗中一聽，正是雷鳴、陳亮跟孔貴提起這件事，雲龍一想：「量小非君子，無毒不丈夫。我一不做，二不休。用調虎離山計，將他幾個人調出去，我藏在屋中。等他睡了，我全要把他們結果了性命。」自己這才到後面放一把火，把四個人調出去。

He knew Lu Tong had a pair of flying legs, and the villain reckoned he couldn’t get away. Seeing that Lu Tong was all but on him, Hua Yunlong hurried up a big tree. Lu Tong couldn’t climb trees. He came up and said, “Hua Yunlong, come down. I’ll give you a hundred whacks with my staff and then let you off.” Hua Yunlong thought, never mind a hundred whacks — one whack would probably kill him. Down below, Lu Tong kept bawling, “If you don’t come down, I’ll knock the tree over!” As he said it, he started beating it with his staff. Hua Yunlong saw the tree shaking under the blows; give him long enough and he really might knock it down. In the villain’s heart a trick was born. He took off his hero’s cloak and said, “Lu Tong, look — I’m going to ride off on a cloud.” And he flung the cloak away to the west. Lu Tong was a simple soul, and he ran after it with his staff. Hua Yunlong jumped down on the east side, and Lu Tong never saw him. That was how the villain got away. Seeing that it was already getting dark, Hua Yunlong thought, “I’ll head for Penglai Temple and find Kong Gui, the Short-Legged Perfected One.” With that he came to the outside of the temple. He was just about to call at the gate when a thought stirred in him: “Wait. If Yang Ming, Lei Ming and Chen Liang are here, I’m in real trouble. Better to have a look round on the quiet first.” His mind made up, he twisted and sprang up onto the roof. He saw lamplight in the west side room. Hua Yunlong crept up close and listened in the dark: it was Lei Ming and Chen Liang telling Kong Gui about this very business. Yunlong thought, “‘A man of small measure is no gentleman; a man without venom is no true man.’ Once begun, I won’t stop halfway. I’ll use the trick of luring the tiger from its mountain to draw them out, and hide in the room. When they’re asleep, I’ll finish off every one of them.” So he went round to the back and set a fire, which drew the four of them out.
